So how often is considered “normal” for someone to be shopping?
So that person will not be named an addict…

::Clears throat and dons professorial glasses::

An addiction demonstrates the following features (adapted from the DSM-IV):
-Tolerance. (You find yourself having to shop at increasing intervals and for longer periods/spending more money each time in order to feel the same sense of satisfaction).
-Withdrawal. (If you DON’T shop regularly, you find yourself panicky and anxious and feeling like something is sorely missing in your life).
-Legal problems. (You start running up debt you cannot pay off or begin shoplifting to satisfy for need for acquisition).
-Personal problems. (Your relationships with your friends and family begin to suffer from your shopping habits, because you always put shopping before them).
-You cannot shop less even when you try.

Basically, it qualifies as an addiction when it disrupts your life to extent that your quality of life diminishes in other spheres and it takes priority over everything else in your world. I feel like there are people this applies to, but I imagine it’s pretty rare.

Moral of the story: You can be quite a shopaholic and still be considered mentally and emotionally normal. As long as you spend within your means and it doesn’t come before other important things in your life, shop on!

Once a week is bordering on addict, kinda like on the margin. Once every fortnight is still ok, but the best would be once a month.

I shop at least thrice a week, not always fashion-related though! :)

Like MurasakiNeko says, as long as you shop within your means, it’s all good. :D

I would say one proper shopping trip or splashout just after pay day and the occasional item throughout the rest of the month is average. When you’re finding that you have no money to go out, socialise and have a life with because you’ve spent it all on fashion etc, thats when you have a problem.

This.
I shop around once a week but I don’t really buy in bulk, I am continually buying bits and pieces in smaller trips.
I live in New York City and stuff comes out so often that it works out better that way! I don’t spend all of my money one week so I can go a little bit more often to check out what’s new in stock.

When you have to call Niecy Nash and Clean House, I think one may be considered a shopping addict. ;) Kidding, but seriously there are some crazy shopping addicts on that show. Like people buying new crap EVERYDAY and not even using it, or worse, leaving it in the shopping bags and letting it all pile up.

I ‘window shop’ online practically daily, but I don’t actually buy anything. I probably shop once per month, and half of that is for my 15-month-old.

Not sure if I am an addict since I shop almost every week. Even worse I tend to shop even more when I am stress. I try to limit myself by sticking to a budget and not allowing myself to buy items over $10 with exception of coat and jacket.

As long as it’s not negatively affecting your finances, personal life or mental health, there’s nothing wrong with it!

…although my boyfriend does sometimes complain that my clothes are creeping onto his side of the closet. =X

honestly, i would imagine once a week would be decent enough to not be called a shopaholic. any more than that in a week (and actually purchasing more then like 3 big items each time) would seem a little much…

hmmmmm I would think if you were to shop more than twice a week, you are definitely an addict! But, oppinions vary! And who cares, shopping is alawyas fun. I admit, if I lived closer to the mall I would be there more than twice a week!

If I had the money I’d be an addict, if I’m in town and I’m buying food sometimes I think to myself, oh well this is £4, if I didn’t buy this I could buy a nice top or something from Primark or a sale. I always choose the food though…haha.
